The 1873-CC Trade Dollar (Buy on eBay) represented the first year of issue for the series produced at the Carson City Mint. Nearly the entire mintage of 124,500 pieces was exported to China, and virtually none were saved by collectors. As a result, the issue remains fairly available in lower circulated grades, but scarce at the AU grade level and rare in Mint State.
It is estimated that perhaps no more than 50 pieces survive in uncirculated condition with the single finest known specimen graded MS65. The finest known piece last sold more than two decades ago at $74,750. Lower graded pieces have subsequently sold for higher prices, including an MS64 piece which sold for $80,500 in 2005.
